1970s BBC Studio Clock and Lights
If you fancy a piece of useful BBC memorabilia then this may be for you! It dates to the 1970s and was installed in Bush House until it closed in 2012. It is very similar to the one installed in Studio C29 (Please click here for a view of that clock in situ) which was used predominantly by the Asian Department of the World Service in its later years. The lower lights are the green and red that showed if they were either ‘on air’ or ‘off air’.
This item was purchased by the previous owner when the building contents were auctioned off by the BBC back in 2012 and is offered in untouched and as found condition. The whole thing is mounted on its thick period formica board with cupboard door hinges on the back and each of the elements have their own wiring. The bottom lights work but I have not tested the alarm lights. As the clock was run off a central system it will need converting probably with a cheap quart movement in the back. If you want to get more creative then you could possibly rewire the whole piece so the lights go on and off at regular intervals!
