Boxed Motorola Personal Phone
In excellent and complete boxed condition and retains its original sales receipt. Powers up but battery does not hold a charge on its own.
I always thought this was one of the weirdest phones ever to come out of the 1990s. Released in 1992 it was Motorola’s first attempt at a consumer phone for the UK market. Marketed as an ’emergency phone’ it lacked a screen and any interesting functions. Depending on the button you pressed it lit up a different number and sequence of lights on the side.
While the idea was perhaps laudable, its still quite hefty price tag (compared to other more user friendly phones) meant it was ultimately a flop. It proved that we actually preferred to see what we were typing via an LED display, and so as far as I’m aware no-one would attempt a phone without a display again……
