The NEC 9A was launched in the UK in the Autumn of 1987 and became the fastest selling mobile phone of 1988. Its reduced size and weight, combined with very good features made it a desirable thing at the time, especially if you compare it to the much bulkier phones on offer from competitors such as Motorola or Vodaphone.
Despite this popularity, the 9A phone is now considered quite rare and desirable, even to find just as a handset on its own. In several years of looking this is the first boxed example I have seen.
Except for a small tear to the lid of the box, this really is in excellent unused fresh condition throughout and is perfect for display or investment. I have plugged it in and the charger lights up, but sadly both the batteries supplied no longer work. As such it is sold for display only.
